Good Family Hotels in Carmel or Monterey

I'm looking for a good place to stay with the family (two kids 5 and 8) in Carmel or Monterey for a weekend. Mainly planning to enjoy the beach and perhaps go to Monterey Aquarium. Any ideas?

We've tried a couple options in Monterey/Carmel with the family. If you want something walking distance to downtown Carmel and the beach, La Playa has a couple one bedroom cottages. We've also rented from Carmel Rentals when we wanted more space for a longer period of time. I haven't stayed there but the Intercontinental Clement in Monterey is located close to the aquarium, has a good restaurant and offers babysitting.

I'd second the recommendation for La Playa. We stayed in a standard room there on the lower floor that opened right onto the lawn - which was great to hang out & watch kids play. Good thing about their location is walkable to beach & restaurants. Another option is the Wayside Inn - they have suites & some with kitchens. Fisherman's Wharf on weekend in Monterey can be fun. Adobe Stokes restaurant (I think that's the name) - awesome eats - can sustain kids.
