We tried La Playa in Carmel, and they are completely booked. And L'Auberge Carmel is adults-only apparently. So now we're exploring in the other direction. Has anyone stayed someplace memorable in Napa or Sonoma? We've heard Healdsburg is great but are open. I should add that we've already called Hotel Healdsburg and the cheapest possibility is $700 a night. Ouch!

Thanks!

You may want to try Solage in Calistoga. Their rates may be high as well (labor day is high season in Napa). Meadowwood would be another option.

There are also some house rentals in Healdburg that might be available for a weekend...http://www.sonomacountyvacations.com/.
Labor Day weekend is tough... The Fairmont Mission Inn in Sonoma is nice but likely sold out. There is a place that I've never been to but heard is nice called Beltane Ranch and I they have a two bedroom cottage: http://www.beltaneranch.com/cottage.html. I'll let you know if I think of more!
One more thought....you might try the Clement InterContinental in Monterey to see if they have any last minute openings. Challenge is that they don't have a lot of rooms with two queen beds but it is a nice hotel with some family-friendly services.

Carmel Valley Ranch is another option but have not stayed there myself.
It came down to a choice between Highlands Inn and Bernardus Lodge. We went with Bernardus Lodge solely based on how lovely and helpful the staff seems. I will keep everyone posted on how it went after the weekend.
