Places to stay in Big Sur for families?
I'm looking for a good family spot in Big Sur that can handle two families each with two adults and two younger kids. Is Ventana reasonable for families? Are there other, more family-friendly spots I should think about?

I've stayed at Ventana but not with kids. It is lovely, has a nice restaurant and beautiful hiking trails above the main lodge. From the patio you can watch the fog roll in from the ocean while you sip drinks. That said, there are some other options that may be better suited to families.
You may want to try Glen Oaks. It is right in Big Sur and as with many of the hotels in this area, you'll want to request a room away from the road to avoid the noise. They do have a nice one bedroom, four room cabin. You can still hit Ventana or Nepenthe for dinner.
